Several members from The Filipino Veterans Recognition and Education Project participated in a panel and viewing of “A Long March” at the National Federation of Filipino American Associations (NaFFAA) National Empowerment Conference last weekend at Aurora, Colorado. Panelists included Mike Simbre, Jon Melegrito, A Long March director Tammy Botkin, illustrator Nonie Cruzado and composer Michael Dadap.
A Long March is a documentary that tells the story of Filipino and Filipino American World War II veterans who fought under U.S. command, only to have many of the promises made to them—including veterans’ benefits and full recognition—revoked after the war. Through personal testimonies, historical records, and the veterans’ decades-long fight for justice, the film explores the legacy of the Bataan Death March, the Rescission Act of 1946, and the enduring struggle to honor the service and sacrifice of these forgotten heroes.
